Gypsy in the Waves
Wainman Hawaii Gypsy and wave riding
I just spent time with Lou and he rides surf exclusively now. The kites in 09' were slightly different super aggressively fast with the trade off that you needed to keep your hand on the bar in light wind with kite when it was at 12. In some cases you might swing under the kite and this might happen during your slack line.
This years that is 100% resolved however Lou and myself think that it did not need fixing and the kites being more rounded was not what we the WH fans cared about. The good and the waves. The gypsy and all Rabbits have amazing ability to hover and launch quickly. I have noticed that you can pull a 180 and head back at the kite and get it to actually go tail vs leading edge first as you smack the lip and the the turn back the direction of travel. The kite can manage a backstall that way on purpose and it makes the kite really stable in the waves. But the part you may not have thought was that with the Gypsy and the Bunny expect to fly them on 17m lines without the 25m extensions. Now you will really see what this is all about. Its so direct and slashing a lip you can make that decision really last and get the kite to the other side or downloop.
The 2010 Gypsy is a 7m and you can even try this kite without the struts inflated so that the kite flutters while you are playing a wave and that I have yet to try. But Lou suggested to give that a go and what appears to be a negative will give you extra time to slash without worrying about dropping the kite. Also without the struts he said that the kite rolls over an launches faster in the waves. But the Hindenburg issue does not exist anymore.
